Media reports have revealed that the foldable iPhone will have an 8-inch QHD + display, which will have a resolution of 1800×3200 pixels. It will have more pixel count than the QXGA + screen available in Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. This 8-inch foldable iPhone will have a 16: 9 aspect ratio. This will be different from the 19.5: 9 aspect ratio coming in the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. It is expected that Apple may produce 15-20 million units of the upcoming foldable iPhone in 2023.
This will be significantly less than what a ready-made iPhone would normally be. The information revealed that Samsung Display could be a partner to produce the display in the foldable iPhone. At the same time, some previous reports revealed that LG Display will produce a flexible display panel for Apple foldable iPhone.
It is also being reported that apart from Samsung, Apple is working with other Taiwan based touch solution provider TPK Taipei. It will provide silver nano wire touch solution in foldable iPhone. The Taiwanese company has previously been Apple’s partner to enable 3D Touch on the iPhone. Apple can achieve considerable success in foldable phones due to its cross-product ecosystem and hardware design.
According to media reports, Apple has been working on the new foldable iPhone for the past few months. Apple has also applied for some patents for its foldable design. It will not only be limited to the iPhone, but it can be used in the iPad. At least 2 prototypes of foldable iPhones are being checked at the Foxconn factory. Another report also revealed that the first foldable iPhone could be announced anytime in 2022.
