He was born on November 06, 1861 in Ontario, Canada. In 1888, Naismith earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Mac Gill University. Then in 1890, he worked as a teacher at YMCA International Training College in Springfield, Massachusetts. Then in 1891 he invented basketball. The game began with two peach baskets, a soccer ball and just ten rules.
Dr. James Naismith died in 1939. He was around 78 years old at this time. He died of brain haemorrhage. But the popularity of the basketball games he started grew over time. The game started from a school gymnasium by Dr. James Naismith. This game is played internationally today.
